News about Milly Alcock Cast As Supergirl

Warner Bros.’ “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has found its star in Milly Alcock, known for her breakout role as the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” Alcock will take on the role of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, in the upcoming DC Studios feature. The casting decision followed screen tests with DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, where Alcock impressed with her audition alongside contender Meg Donnelly.

The character Kara Zor-El is expected to make appearances in a DC Studios project before her solo adventure, though the specific project remains uncertain. It might be James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy,” set to start filming in the spring, or another DC movie or show. Ana Nogueira is penning the script, and the feature, inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely miniseries of the same name, could potentially begin shooting in the fall pending the appointment of a director.

James Gunn expressed his excitement about Milly Alcock joining the DC Universe, praising her talent and noting her standout auditions for the role. The upcoming Supergirl is said to be a departure from the traditional portrayal, standing in contrast to Superman. Gunn emphasized the difference in their upbringings, with Supergirl witnessing the destruction of Krypton and the loss of loved ones before arriving on Earth.

The character of Supergirl has a rich history in DC Comics, dating back to Action Comics No. 252, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. Previous portrayals include Helen Slater in the 1984 film “Supergirl” and Melissa Benoist in the CW series from 2015-21. Sasha Calle also portrayed the character in the film “The Flash.”

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is part of Chapter 1 of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC slate, which also includes “The Batman: The Brave and the Bold” and a TV series starring Amanda Waller from “Suicide Squad.” Includes Viola Davis.

Milly Alcock is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, Curtis Brown Group and Goodman Genow.
