Greta Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia Project to Begin Production in 2023
Filmmaker and actor Greta Gerwig is set to work on a new project based on The Chronicles of Narnia.
She has signed a deal with Netflix to write and direct two movies based on the book series.
Netflix's movie chief, Scott Stuber announced that the production of Greta Gerwig's Narnia project will commence next year although specific details about the start date and filming schedule are not mentioned.
Greta Gerwig expressed her feelings about taking on The Chronicles of Narnia project mentioning her apprehension and the challenge it presents.
She stated that she is properly scared of the project, which she sees as a positive sign indicating her respect for the source material.
The first big-screen adaptation of the Narnia series, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," was released in 2005 by Disney and was a commercial success, grossing nearly $750 million worldwide.
Disney also released a sequel "Prince Caspian," in 2008 and "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" in 2010.
Netflix acquired the rights to all seven books in The Chronicles of Narnia series in 2018 marking the first time a single company had obtained the entire franchise.
The Narnia projects on Netflix will have Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber as executive producers.
