Guest Judge Billy Porter Advises Jason Mraz on 'Dancing With the Stars' Amidst Whitney Houston-Themed Episode
Guest judge Billy Porter, who coincidentally began the Whitney Houston-themed episode of "Dancing With the Stars" by singing "How Will I Know?"
offered advice to season 32 contestant Jason Mraz.
Jason Mraz and his partner Daniella Karagach performed a samba to "Higher Love" by Kygo and Whitney Houston during the episode.
Porter found Mraz's habit of singing along or mouthing the words during his performances distracting.
Advising Mraz, Porter suggested saving the singing for Broadway and emphasized the importance of conveying a story through dance for the competition.
Porter's critique received boos from the live studio audience.
Carrie Ann Inaba, another judge, previously explained that the audience tends to react strongly to negative feedback, acknowledging her encouragement of such reactions.
Contrary to Porter's advice, Mraz has prior Broadway experience, notably stepping into the role of Dr. Pomatter in "Waitress" for a 10-week run in 2017.
