Julie Ertz retires from international soccer USWNT after World Cup Round of 16 loss against Sweden 

Julie Ertz has retired from the USWNT following a surprise loss in the World Cup Round of 16.

The USWNT team suffered a knockout defeat against Sweden on Sunday.

Julie Ertz has announced her retirement from the US women's national soccer team.

Ertz has appeared in every match during the USWNT Championship run at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.

The last championship could not repeat that success, losing to Sweden in the Round of 16, the first ever exit from a major tournament.

Ertz is a two-time Olympian and World Cup winner, having played 122 games and scored 20 goals for the United States over 10years.

Ertz said."I think this is probably my last game to have this honour, so I think it's just... it's very difficult,"

He said that "I think it's just an emotional time. It absolutely sucks. The fine is the worst".
