Lionel Messi misses another match with leg injury – as it happened
The situation for Lionel Messi at Inter is like this: the team keeps saying he can play, and then he doesn't.
That proved true again on Saturday, when Messi was left out of the lineup for the match against New York City FC.
Messi has a leg injury, the severity of which Inter Miami has not disclosed.
The Miami team announced that Messi would not play about 45minutes before Saturday's game time.
Tomas Aviles scored a header in stoppage time to secure a 1-1draw. NYCFC took the lead in the 77th minute with a goal from Santiago Rodriguez.
Messi has now missed four of Inter Miami's last five matches, as well as missing another match for Argentina in that period.
What both his club and country first described as fatigue – and has evolved from there.
He had a 37-minute appearance against Toronto on September 20, and was believed to be forced to leave that match before halftime due to a hamstring problem.
